“The most important thing I do for TEEX is instructing the students,” said instructor Scott Hill. Hill is an Instructor for the Urban Search & Rescue training division of TEEX and a Rescue Specialist for Texas Task Force 1. He has been working in urban search and rescue for almost 10 years, and has spent the last two at TEEX.

He is an instructor for Structural Collapse 1 & 2, Advanced Structural Collapse 3 & 4, the FEMA 80-hour course, and the Medical Considerations for Rescue Specialist course.

He realized the impact he had on students in 2005 – after he finished teaching a class on Friday, was deployed on Saturday, and ran into a student he had just taught in the chow line at the BOO (Base of Operations) for all FEMA US&R teams at the Hurricane Katrina deployment.

“It really drove home the point that by teaching, I am touching other people’s lives in a real way,” Hill said.

Hill has had the opportunity to experience first-hand the subjects that he teaches at Disaster City® while working at Ground Zero after 9/11. While there, he did mostly cutting and burning and debris removal. Along with serving at Ground Zero, Hill was deployed to the Del Rio floods in 1998, Texas A&M Bonfire Collapse in 1999, Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, and most recently Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.

Hill is also involved with the Brazos County PCT. 4 Fire Department and works as a PRN paramedic for St. Joseph’s EMS in Bryan, Texas. When he isn’t working, he likes spending time with his family, traveling and meeting people from around the world.
