Whether he is teaching a Wilderness Search and Rescue class to the Texas State Guard, or a technical search course for the London Fire Brigade, Instructor Ken Larsen says, “I love the challenges and diversity of working as an instructor for TEEX.”
Larsen has served as a Search Team Manager on Texas Task Force 1 since 1997. Over the last 9 years he has worked with the Task Force Leadership and TEEX to develop a multi-mission- capable search program that includes wilderness, collapse, flood, and wide area search response training. With more than 24 years of operational experience in Emergency Services / Public Safety operations as a State of Texas certified Firefighter / Paramedic, Police Officer, HAZMAT Technician, National Fire Academy and College Fire Science Instructor, Larsen has been asked to lecture at national conferences and regional seminars. He has also conducted classroom and field training programs for local, state, federal and military response personnel throughout the U.S, Mexico, Asia and the U.K.
“The worldwide appeal of the TEEX training programs offers me the opportunity to develop myself as an educator and a responder. As a rule I try to always learn something from my students – maintaining a balance of teach and be taught.” By combining classroom training with operational experience, Larsen provides his students with a no-nonsense approach to solving the problems faced in the rapidly changing field of search and rescue.
