Texas Task Force 1

Texas Task Force 1 at workTexas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) is the most deployed urban search and rescue (US&R) team in the country. Teams have expertise in responding to both man-made and natural disasters. TX-TF1 functions as a federal team under FEMA's national US&R program and as Texas' only statewide US&R team under direction of the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

TX-TF1 is comprised of personnel that are proficient in:

  • urban search and rescue
  • water rescue
  • hazardous materials (HazMat)
  • weapons of mass destruction (WMD)

Members of TX-TF1 include:

  • firefighters
  • medical specialists
  • canines and handlers
  • heavy equipment operators
  • structural engineers
  • other specialty emergency responders.

Sponsored by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and headquartered in College Station, Texas. Teams train at Disaster City® which is capable in delivering the full array of skills and techniques needed by today’s emergency response professionals.
