Agreement with Northwestern State will provide college credit for 2 TEEX programs

Date: June 28, 2012

COLLEGE STATION - The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and Northwestern State University of Louisiana have signed an articulation agreement that will provide college credit for the TEEX Certified Safety & Health Official™ (CSHO) program and the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic program.

Northwestern State UniversityUnder the agreement, Northwestern State University will grant 18 hours of college credit for the CSHO and 25 hours of college credit for the EMT-Paramedic certification toward a Bachelor of Science in Unified Public Safety Administration, said Mark Posada, TEEX Manager of Education and Training Initiatives.

A member of the University of Louisiana System, NSU is a unique four-year university that offers associate degrees as well as bachelor and master degrees, Posada said. The university is located in Natchitoches, La., but offers 29 accredited online degree programs that can be taken anywhere.

Joe Morris, Head of the Department of Criminal Justice at NSU, said, “We are excited about this agreement as it allows students to pursue their dream of obtaining a degree even while they work full-time.” Morris added that another advantage is that internet-only students are not required to pay out-of-state fees.

“This is yet another option for our students to earn college credit for training they completed at TEEX,” Posada said. “We’re seeing that more and more job openings require that the applicants have college credit on their resume in order to apply. This arrangement not only allows our students to qualify for those positions, but it also grants them the flexibility to work toward a bachelor's degree from a quality institution on a timeline that works best for them.”
