BIG Lake at Center of West Texas Oil Boom
  Growing oil exploration in the Wolfcamp/Cline geologic formation has positioned Big Lake, Texas at the center of one of the nation’s largest production fields. To assess the growing demands on the region, the Knowledge Engineering, Economic Development unit at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in cooperation with Big Lake, reviewed the competitive factors impacting its growth and economic diversification.

‘Pediatric Disaster Response’ course addresses needs of children in a crisis
  A new course offered by TEEX, Pediatric Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness, is designed to identify gaps, integrate efforts and enhance the ability of the community to plan for and more effectively manage the effects of a disaster on children.

And then, there were two: Bretagne and Woody
  Retired Texas Task Force 1 search dog Bretagne was believed to be the last remaining Search Canine who deployed to the World Trade Center site in New York City after the events of 9/11. We are pleased to learn that Ohio Task Force 1 search canine Woody, who also deployed to Ground Zero, is happily enjoying retirement in Ohio.

Web-based simulation software links emergency responders in Newark and College Station
  The new web-based Emergency Management * Exercise System (EM*ES Web) simulation software has been successfully deployed to connect emergency responders in two locations – 1,600 miles apart. The Newark, NJ, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) used the EM*ES to connect to the city’s Incident Management Team in College Station during a daylong exercise.

  Expecting to train over 6000 students this year and contributing $1.25 million to the Mesquite economy over the past 5 years, the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Region VI OSHA Training Institute Education Center is celebrating its 20th year.

Cool Schools, Hot Training: Summer Fire Training Schools draw over 3,000 students
  The annual July Fire Training Schools concluded on July 25 with the 85th Annual Municipal Fire Training School. The three schools drew more than 3,000 firefighters from Texas and around the world to Brayton Fire Training Field for a challenging week of training.

State Legislators and staff visit Municipal Fire School during SFFMA Legislative Day
  Several Texas Legislators and more than 30 Legislative staff members participated in the Annual Legislative Day at the Municipal Fire School on July 23. The event was sponsored by the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA), TEEX and the Texas A&M Forest Service (TFS).

Lawson tapped to lead National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center
  Hank Lawson has been named Director of TEEX’s National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC), which is a founding member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium and has enhanced the nation’s preparedness by training more than 450,000 responders in over 10,000 jurisdictions.

Cybersecurity Summer Camp exposes teens to STEM careers
  Local high school students from across the Brazos Valley attended the inaugural Cyber Centurion Summer Camp offered by TEEX on June 23-27, and designed to introduce the teens to the computing and cybersecurity industry. Another camp will be offered on July 28-Aug. 1, 2014.

TEEX delivering grant-funded Death Investigation Training, Workshops in South Texas
  Four, tuition-free, Crime Scene Investigation classes will be offered over the next four months in South Texas. The training is being funded by the Governor’s Office, Texas Criminal Justice Division, to provide South Texas law enforcement officers and judicial representatives specialized training through the Texas Forensic Science Academy and Texas Justice Court Training Center located at Texas State University.
