LET590 - Mental Health Officer - 24.00 Hours

Education Credit
This course will satisfy part of the standards necessary for certification as a Mental Health Officer by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) (Occupations Code, Section 1701.404).

Description

The 24-hour Mental Health Officer course will familiarize officers with the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders and disabilities. Officers will also become aware of developmental disabilities including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and hearing impairments.

  • Examining indicators of mental illness
  • Understanding mental illness
  • Documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their families, and the mental health system
  • Applying intervention strategies for dealing with both low- and high-risk situations

    Audience

    Participants must be currently commissioned Texas peace officers.
