This course addresses the national strategy and priority for implementing the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP). In doing so, the course defines the National partnering approach to CIKR protection. It discusses the process for identifying and assessing CIKR common vulnerabilities. It also enhances participant competencies in identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities within and across sectors. The enhancement of competencies drives the unique feature of the NIPP public-private partnership - the value proposition. States, regions, local, tribal, and territorial governments and their communities have unique concerns arising from the functional and geographical interdependencies and unique mix of critical infrastructure and key resources in their areas. Therefore, it is important for these actors to implement critical infrastructure and key resource protection efforts leveraging the NIPP, associated Sector-Specific Plans as well as more specific, local concerns. The private sector – through enhanced core competencies – will improve the nation’s capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from attacks, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
