The Overhead Electrical Distribution Equipment Installation course provides participants training on proper procedures used for installation and connection of various types of electrical apparatus to an electrical distribution system. During the course, participants operate as a team to safely accomplish all installation requirements specific to the proper connectivity of electrical distribution equipment. The emphasis during this course is placed on proper equipment grounding techniques necessary to de-energize electrical power systems required to safely accomplish each task. Hands-on field exercises conducted from an elevated position of almost 40 feet include installation and connection of single-phase and three-phase transformers along with reclosers, capacitor banks, and voltage regulators. Students receive a safety briefing (OSHA 190.269.(c)) prior to all activities.
TEEX Certification/Licensing Requirement
Participants must provide evidence of completion of the TEEX Wood Pole Climbing (EPP001) course or equivalent training verified by their current employer through a completed Student Qualification Form. This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the documents during registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster. All documentation is due at least 14 business days prior to the start of class.
Course Completion Requirements
Participants will be required to climb and descend a wood utility pole during field exercises, safely operate machinery, and move approximately 50 pounds during the installation of overhead distribution equipment. In order to successfully complete these exercises, participants must be aware of any medical and/or physical limitations that might prevent them from participating in such activities.
Student Must Provide
- Hard hat
- Rubber gloves (Class 2)
- Work gloves
- Safety glasses
- Long-sleeved shirt
- Climbing tools
- Work boots
- Hand tools
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
