Course Description
**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):
– Water Operator License
The Water Laboratory course provides professionals with responsibility for conducting water sample testing in a lab environment with industry standards and best practices as determined through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). During the course participants are required to demonstrate the proper use of all equipment in a lab setting, successfully applying all related safety protocols.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Prior Training Courses or Knowledge
It is recommended, but not required, participants complete Surface Water Production I (WWW004) prior to registration.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Discuss fundamental laboratory components of water analysis.
- Discuss proper techniques used in the laboratory.
- Discuss basic chemistry and associated mathematical concepts used in water analysis.
- Describe safe work practices for the laboratory.
- Describe the concept of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) in the water lab.
- Discuss the analysis of pH.
- Explain the analysis of alkalinity.
- Determine the significance of jar test results.
- Explain the analysis of turbidity.
- Describe the fundamentals of microbiology pertaining to water treatment.
- Describe the analysis of ammonia and related nitrogen compounds in the disinfection process.
- Discuss the chemistry relevant to the analysis of Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
- Discuss the secondary constituents iron, manganese, sulfate, as well as fluoride and relevant analytical procedures.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for water utility professionals responsible for field or process controlled sampling and analysis of water.

Course Disclaimers
The Surface Water Production I and II courses, along with the Water Laboratory course are completed as a training series. However, the Water Laboratory course may be completed either before or after the Surface Water Production II course is completed.
