The Emergency Medical Services profession includes four levels: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT, and Paramedic. The TEEX/ESTI EMS Program offers courses that prepare graduates for certification, by examination, from the National Registry of EMT’s at the EMR, EMT, and Paramedic level. All instructors have years of experience as EMTs and paramedics and use currently educational best practice methodologies.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Paramedic

The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system.

TxDOT Rural/Frontier EMS Grant Funding

TEEX in conjunction/cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation is committed to improving pre-hospital care and emergency medical response in rural and frontier areas of Texas. The goal of Rural/Frontier EMS Education Funding is to improve the availability of training in these areas and EMS involvement in local communities. Through this program, TEEX can assist agencies and departments with initial, refresher, instructor and continuing education training. Funding for this invaluable program comes from TxDOT Traffic Safety Division whose goal is two-fold, to increase the availability of EMS training in rural and frontier areas; and increase EMS involvement in local community safety efforts.
