Forensic Investigator II

The Forensic Investigator II Certificate is designed to give graduates a recognized credential that can translate into greater recognition within their respective field. After completing the required certificates, courses, and one elective course offered through the Texas Forensic Science Academy graduates will have an understanding of the investigator’s role throughout the investigative process, procedures for conducting investigations of various types of human death, and the skills for scientific interpretation of bloodstain evidence at crime scenes.

Once all courses have been completed, applicants should confirm they meet all certificate requirements using the Forensic Investigator II Application and return it to the TEEX Law Enforcement & Protective Services Excellence division. Eligibility of each candidate will be reviewed and email notification of decision will be sent.

Note: Applicants should have a majority of the Forensic Investigator Level I classes complete, if not the entire Forensic Investigator Level I Certificate, before starting the Level II courses. All courses must be taken within seven (7) years of the date of the application. Only one course from another provider will be accepted if the curriculum and hours match TEEX curriculum. TEEX will review your course equivalency request and make a determination on a case-by-case basis; additional information may be required from you.

Forensic Investigator II	FSA103	Bloodstain Pattern Analysis	The science of bloodstain pattern analysis can assist investigators in making determinations, such as, relative positions of the victim or suspect, the nature of the force and weapon used, and the approximate number of blows struck during an assault. This course is designed for those who investigate crime scenes containing blood evidence, such as assaults and death investigation, as well as those who process bloodstained evidentiary items. Participants will learn the basic knowledge of bloodstain pattern analysis, including methods and skills for the scientific interpretation of bloodstain evidence at crime scenes and on evidentiary items. Course instruction is through lecture and case review with emphasis on experiments and practical application.
