The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) announced the retirement of Associate Agency Director Bill May, who joined the agency in 1998. May was responsible for Homeland Security Services for the agency as well as Director of the Integrative Center for Homeland Security.

May came to TEEX after a 30-year career with the U.S. Army, where he retired with the rank of colonel. During his career in the military, he was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Purple Heart for a wound he suffered while serving in Vietnam. May was the first director of the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC) at TEEX.

“Bill May has a real passion for homeland security issues,” commented Agency CEO Gary Sera. “His vision and dedication made NERRTC what it is today.”

In 2004, May received the Regents Fellow Award for his dedication to preparing and equipping emergency responders in Texas and the nation to meet the challenges of a changing world. The Regents Fellow is the highest honor bestowed by The Texas A&M University System.
