Rebecca Wendt, a Crime Scene Technician from the Bryan Police Department and Public Safety & Security Division Instructor, recently completed all course work requirements necessary to receive her Forensic Investigator II Certificate through the Texas Forensic Science Academy (TFSA), a component of the Texas Law Enforcement Extension Program. The Forensic Investigator II Certificate represents the highest level of achievement offered through the TFSA.
"It's a great feeling to have completed all work necessary to receive this certificate. The entire learning experience has produced immeasurable results that continue to assist me with crime scene investigations," reports Wendt. "Becoming the first crime scene investigator in Texas to achieve this accomplishment means a great deal. Doing so has inspired me to continue expanding my knowledge in the forensics investigation field."
Wendt's relationship with the Texas Forensic Science Academy started when she joined the Bryan Police Department as an Investigative Assistant in 2007. Once on board, she completed the Forensic Technician Certificate in July 2009 followed by the Forensic Investigator I Certificate in September 2010. After successfully completing the Processing Evidence of Violent Crimes course this month, Wendt received her Forensic Investigator II Certificate. In all, Wendt has now completed more than 400 hours of forensic training through TEEX.
Wendt considers the TFSA Certificate Program an important part of her success. "It's definitely been a combination of my experience while on the job as well as the training I received from the Texas Forensic Science Academy at TEEX. These two important components, combined with an on-the-job operational application, makes the learning process useful and much more specific to my profession." Her advice to anyone interested in crime scene investigation? "Always be willing to learn."
