Rep. John Raney, Texas Legislative Staff Members visit TEEX

COLLEGE STATION - Several Texas Legislative staff members recently visited TEEX, along with Rep. John Raney, who represents District 14 and serves on the House Appropriations and Higher Education Committees. The group included David Shoemaker of Gov. Rick Perry’s office, Terra Willett and Ryan Skrobarczyk of Rep. Kyle Kacal’s staff, Hayden Paul of Sen. Charles Schwertner’s staff, and Julie Porter of Rep. Raney’s staff.

At the first stop on Nov. 20, they heard a presentation about Texas Task Force 1 and toured the team’s equipment cache. Then the group visited several TEEX training facilities and watched demonstrations at the Riverside Campus, including the Wiatt Building and UXO range at Public Safety and Security, along with the Utilities Hangar and mobile Water Lab at Infrastructure Training and Safety. The visit wrapped up with tours of Disaster City, the Emergency Operations Training Center and Brayton Fire Training Field.

The visit was organized by Tiffiny Britton, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Government Relations with Texas A&M Engineering, and included visits to other members of the Texas A&M Engineering Program.

“Bringing staff to see TEEX’s training and facilities gives them a much better understanding of the agency and its programs,” Britton said. “Seeing the TX-TF1 cache and touring the training programs at Riverside, Brayton Fire Field and Disaster City is far better than reading about them in a brochure.”
