Keeping the peace in the Brazos Valley: TEEX Central Texas Police Academy graduates 22 new officers

COLLEGE STATION - Twenty-two new peace officers are graduating from the Central Texas Police Academy on June 6, after 18 weeks of comprehensive training. Assistant Police Chief Jessica Robledo of the Austin Police Department will deliver the keynote address at the graduation ceremony, which will be held at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum’s Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at 5 p.m.

TEEX, Central Texas Police Academy, Texas A&M EngiMost of the new officers will soon begin their duties with area police departments in Bryan, College Station and Texas A&M University, as well as the Sheriff’s Offices in Brazos, Burleson and Grimes Counties.

After going through orientation, the 154th Basic Peace Officer Class began basic training Feb. 3, 2014. Topics covered during the academy range from criminal investigation and firearms proficiency to defense tactics, code of criminal procedure and emergency driving. Graduates enrolled through Blinn College earn 20 hours of college credit.

TEEX Director Gary Sera will welcome the class and their guests to the graduation ceremony, and Training Director Cullen Grissom will address the graduates. Class #154 awards will be presented by Public Safety & Security Director Tom Shehan, and Academy Training Manager Lee Santo will award certificates to the new officers.

Other members of the academy staff Larry Frye, Jan Meyer-Brickley and Karen Brown. More than 40 guest instructors from area law enforcement agencies and other criminal justice industry advocates who assisted with the academy will also be recognized.

Recognized as the oldest statewide law enforcement extension training agency in Texas, the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has been providing specialized training to law enforcement professionals since 1942. Graduates of the Central Texas Police Academy are licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and recruited by law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
