TEEX establishes Cooperative Learning Center to train responders in Oregon

A new Cooperative Learning Center (CLC) has been established by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) to provide training to fire service and public safety professionals in Oregon.

TEEX has partnered with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, the Oregon Trail Fire Training Association, the City of Pendleton Fire Department and the Hermiston Department of Fire and Emergency Services to create the new CLC. CLCs undergo a rigorous inspection process and are approved by senior leadership of the agency to provide TEEX emergency response training to local responders in their state or nation.

Hermiston Fire and Emergency Services and the TEEX Fire Officer Program have been working to put the CLC partnership in place since September 2014, said TEEX Training Manager Robert Barron. “It has been a long road, but we are excited to have the partnership in place. The Hermiston Fire and Emergency Services CLC started their first Fire Officer I Class on June 15.”

Eriks J. Gabliks, Director of the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), said the group is “excited about the partnership that has resulted in the creation of a Cooperative Learning Center in Oregon with TEEX/ESTI.” DPSST serves more than 41,000 public safety personnel and is recognized for its innovative training programs and stakeholder involvement, which results in the development and implementation of standards for professional certification.

“This partnership shall be one of mutual benefit and provide professional education to the men and women of the fire service on the Pacific Northwest,” said Fire Chief Scott J. Stanton of Hermiston Fire & Emergency Services. “We look forward to our relationship with TEEX and opportunities that will be provided.”
