NEW BRAUNFELS - Emergency response personnel from New York, Oklahoma and Texas recently completed the Swiftwater Rescue I and II course in New Braunfels.
The 19 responders represented the New York Police Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Corpus Christi Fire Department, Washington County EMS and the National Guard 63rd WMD Civil Support Team. Many already serve on water rescue teams, but came to TEEX for realistic, hands-on training conducted in swift-moving water.
Participants learned about river dynamics, swiftwater hydrology and personal safety, and practiced both shore-based and water rescue operations in both day and night scenarios. The training was conducted Feb. 8-11 in New Braunfels on the Guadalupe and Comal rivers. Instructors were Keith Brown, Warren “Country” Weidler and Justin Todd.
