TEEX's Bunte Named to Fire Commission

Chief Les Bunte of the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has been appointed to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection by Gov. Rick Perry. The commission enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance to fire service personnel.

Bunte heads TEEX’s Emergency Services Training Institute and the world-renowned Brayton Fire Training Field. TEEX trains more than 81,000 emergency responders from all 50 states and 45 countries each year.

A native of Austin, Bunte is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Texas Fire Chiefs Association and the National Fire Protection Association. He is also a member of the National Society of Executive Fire Officers and the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas.

Bunte served as an advisory board member for urban search and rescue team Texas Task Force 1 and the Fire Protection Technology Program at Austin Community College. He received a bachelor’s degree in education from then-Southwest Texas State University and a master’s degree in public affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Office Program.

Bunte’s term will expire Feb. 1, 2009. Joining Bunte on the commission will be Kelley Martin Stalder of Parker, Juanita “Jane” Solis Burch of Arlington, Elroy Carson of Ransom Canyon, Chris Connealy of Cedar Park, Yusuf Elias Farran of El Paso, John Kelly Gillette III of Frisco, John W. Riddle of Willis, and G. Kent Worley of Fort Worth.

These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

TEEX, a member of The Texas A&M University System, offers hands-on, customized training, technical assistance and emergency response services impacting Texas and beyond. Agency programs include fire services, homeland security, public safety and security, public works, safety and health, search and rescue, and economic solutions.
