TEEX's OSHA Southwest Education Center has trained more participants than any other Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Education Center for the third consecutive year. The center provided safety and health training for 5,406 participants through 280 courses in fiscal year 2006. Additionally, TEEX-trained OSHA outreach trainers conducted safety training for more than 37,000 workers across the world. The TEEX OSHA Center is located in Mesquite and serves Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.
Along with this national recognition, OSHA has awarded TEEX a Susan Harwood Grant totaling more than $350,000 to develop and deliver a four-day course focusing on OSHA regulations that apply to the oil and gas industry. A regional plan for recruiting oil and gas industry employees, supervisors and managers will also be conducted as part of the grant. Spearheading this effort is Dr. David Schaller, Program Manager for TEEX's Professional & Regulatory Training (PRT).
"The oil and gas industry plays a vital role in both the Texas and national economy. Through proactive training programs such as this, we provide knowledge that employees can use to work safely and employers can use to develop accident prevention programs to reduce the risk of accidental injury and property loss," said PRT Division Director David Milligan.
