Late Friday afternoon, College Station-based Texas Task Force 1 began demobilizing all of its swiftwater squads and equipment; however, a liaison will remain on-hand in Burnet County to assist those communities with accessing any needed state resources.
Since June 26, TX-TF1 has performed and coordinated numerous rescue operations via water and air in the Texas Hill Country. One of the more recent missions occurred Thursday when task force members assisted local responders with the evacuation of 160 children, ages 4-16, from the Camp Buckner children’s facility in Burnet.
And while TX-TF1 demobilizes, there’s a chance of additional deployments next week: The National Weather Service indicates more heavy thunderstorms could generate another deluge in the Hill Country.
In all, 52 TX-TF1 deployed personnel and 12 support personnel were involved in this week’s missions.
