TX-TF1 deploys additional swiftwater rescue teams

7/3/2007 12:00 AM

Texas Task Force-1 deployed an additional four swiftwater rescue squads late Monday in advance of a new line of severe thunderstorms in the Texas Hill Country.

The four TX-TF1 squads are staged in the New Braunfels area, complementing the four squads that were deployed Sunday to Eastland and Parker counties in north-central Texas. TX-TF1 is also helping coordinate a joint air-ground rescue team that includes the Texas Forest Service, Texas Military Forces, Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Additionally, TX-TF1 is helping coordinate search and rescue assets in the Rio Grande Valley, doing so in conjunction with Texas Parks & Wildlife, U.S. Customs and Border Control, and the Texas General Land Office.

The National Weather Service indicates that additional heavy rains will fall overnight along the flooded I-35 corridor and other saturated areas of the state.
