COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is hosting the Valero Energy Corporation Fire School this week, with 170 emergency response team members undergoing extensive, hands-on industrial fire training at the Brayton Fire Training Field .
The Valero firefighters, who come from throughout the United States and Aruba, represent 14 of the company’s 18 refineries. This marks the eighth year TEEX has hosted emergency responders from Valero, the largest refiner in North America.
“This facility has the fire training props and projects that replicate the incidents our emergency response team members would likely face in an emergency,” said James Pursell, health, safety and emergency preparedness manager for Valero. “We are able to benefit from the some of the most realistic training available.”
Each of Valero’s refineries conducts emergency-response training with TEEX four times a year in firefighting, hazardous materials and rescue. A member of The Texas A&M University System, TEEX is recognized as the world’s top emergency services training institute. Each year, the agency trains more than 70,000 firefighters and emergency responders from throughout Texas, all 50 states and more than 40 countries.
TEEX offers hands-on, customized training, exercises, technical assistance and emergency response services impacting Texas and beyond. TEEX programs include fire , homeland security , law enforcement , public works , safety and health , search and rescue and technology transfer .
