Media Advisory: Fire School to host public

7/21/2008 12:00 AM

The Texas Engineering Extension Service, or TEEX, will host a “night burn” for the community on Wednesday, July 23, at the world-renowned Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station.

Gates open at 7 p.m. with a children’s fire-awareness program – featuring clowns – beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fires begin burning at 8 p.m.

The demonstrations will showcase firefighters’ skills in battling towering blazes generated at Brayton Fire Training Field, recognized as the world’s largest live-fueled fire training facility. This up-close experience is perfect for all ages.

The annual Municipal School is conducted by TEEX and is sponsored by the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshal’s Association. More than 2,000 firefighters from across the country, and some 600 guest instructors, will be in attendance.

Parking for the public demonstrations will be available along Nuclear Science Road, which intersects the west end of George Bush Drive off FM-2818. Car-pooling is encouraged.

Weather: Should forecasted weather conditions warrant cancellation of the event, TEEX will immediately notify local media outlets.
