  • Summit offers 320 hours of reduced cost workforce training in San Antonio

Twenty-four courses and more than 320 hours of training will be offered during the Infrastructure and Safety Summit on May 20-24 in San Antonio.

Sponsored by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the summit will include reduced cost training in Water & Wastewater, Safety & Health (OSHA), Disaster Management, Cybersecurity, Stormwater & Hazardous Waste, as well as Work Zone Traffic Control & Flagging. The training is designed to assist both entry-level employees and experienced workers seeking career advancement.

Participants can earn the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach card, which can assist them in obtaining employment in the construction industry. The 10-hour class will be offered in Spanish and English for a $25 tuition fee.

The summit will be hosted by Texas A&M University — San Antonio, and participants will have access to all of the training in one location, the Brooks City-Base Campus on Louis Bauer Drive. Courses range from 4 hours to 31 hours in length, and will be conducted by subject-matter experts from TEEX’s Infrastructure Training & Safety Institute. Reduced tuition fees range from $0 to $100 per class.

“We are pleased to announce that Texas A&M University-San Antonio is hosting our classes facilitating this critical training for workers and employers not only in the San Antonio area, but South Texas as well,” said Ron Peddy, Division Director of the Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute.

“We have been conducting regional training events across Texas for several years, but this is one of our largest ones yet. Feedback from our students and their employers tell us they like having multiple training opportunities available at a single location in their region, saving them time and money.”

The Brooks City-Base Campus is easily accessed from I-35, Highway 37, I-10 and I-410 Loop in San Antonio.
