  • Bennett speaks to U.S. Conference of Mayors summit

TEEX Director Dr. Kem Bennett spoke at a special Emergency, Safety and Security Summit held by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 24-25, 2001. About 100 mayors from across the nation attended, along with police chiefs, fire chiefs and emergency management officials.

Bennett addressed the importance of planning for potential terrorism incidents, training and conducting exercises to make certain the emergency management plans work and everyone knows their jobs. He also encouraged cities to form mutual aid agreements with neighboring communities.

Other speakers included U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, and Tom Ridge, director of the Office of Homeland Security.
