The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has named Les Bunte as Director of the Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI).
Bunte succeeds Rick Tye, who was named to the position of TEEX Director of Federal and International Programs. Bunte, a 29-year veteran of the Austin Fire Department, served as Assistant Chief for eight years, prior to retiring in November.
“Les is highly regarded for his integrity and leadership in the public safety sector,” said Tom Morley, TEEX Interim Director. “His unique leadership skills and strong and varied professional experience will help maintain the excellence of our programs for the emergency community and the fire service of this state.”
Bunte earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and a master of public administration degree from the University of Texas. He is a graduate of the Harvard University Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government and the Executive Fire Officer Program of the National Fire Academy.
ESTI delivers training to more than 50,000 emergency services personnel each year from municipal, volunteer, industrial, federal, and international backgrounds.
