Kermit Reno, a student in the information technology (IT) program at the Career Advancement and Applied Technology Training Division, recently won the CompTIA IT Merit Award, which included a certificate and cash prize.

The award was created to recognize outstanding achievement or commitment to IT training and certification in an effort to encourage more individuals to enter the IT industry.

Reno, who did not have a background in computers when he entered the program a year ago, has achieved the A+, CST, CNST and Net+ certifications, and has begun his own business. He is currently halfway through the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer training program.

I didn’t get to say thank you before I left class so I wanted to take a moment and say thank you. Your class was excellent and I really appreciate the effort that you put into it. The material presented was effectively put together to ensure that we got the most out of it. I could really tell that you enjoy what you do. I have been training for quite some time and can tell that your passion is extremely high.
