COLLEGE STATION, TX -— The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents named Robert L. “Lanny” Smith the director of the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). He will begin his new duties on July 14.
Smith is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and former chief of staff/deputy commandant, U.S. Corps of Cadets at West Point. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy, a master’s degree in European history from the University of North Carolina, a master’s degree in national security and strategy from the Naval War College and a master’s degree in business management from Salve Regina University.
“Lanny Smith is everything we had hoped to find in a director for TEEX,” said Texas A&M University System Chancellor Howard Graves. “He brings experience with national security and business management to the agency and I look forward to his leadership.”
Smith succeeds Dr. G. Kemble Bennett, who was named to the position of vice chancellor for engineering, dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University and director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station last September.
