  • TEEX teams up with Texas Forest Service to train rural volunteer firefighters

A partnership between TEEX and the Texas Forest Service provided free tuition to 129 rural Texas volunteer firefighters from 38 departments to attend the 16th Annual Spring Fire Training School. The school, which was held Feb. 29 through March 5 at the Brayton Fire Training Field, attracted 330 students — the highest enrollment for a Spring School in 14 years.

Tuition was paid through the Texas Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance program, a cost-share program funded by the Texas State Legislature. The program provides approximately $14 million each year to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, equipment and training.
