  • Texas Task Force 1 shifts swiftwater rescue operations to Wharton County

COLLEGE STATION – Texas Task Force 1, the state’s elite search and rescue team, has shifted its swiftwater rescue operations to Wharton County after spending Monday in Comal County and San Antonio.

Torrential rains have caused flooding along the Colorado River, which is expected to continue for the next several days. Texas Task Force 1 is continuing to assist local emergency response crews in the flood rescue efforts.

In addition to rescues, Task Force members are staffed at both the San Antonio and Pierce Disaster District Committee locations.

Texas Task Force 1 also continues to monitor severe weather throughout Texas and is prepared to respond to further disasters, including tornadoes.

The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), a member of The Texas A&M University System, serves as the sponsoring agency for Texas Task Force 1. TEEX is the primary agency responsible for search and rescue functions under the State of Texas Emergency Management Plan.
