Texas Task Force 1 deployed two water strike teams to East Texas late Friday evening at the request of the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management to assist in regional flood response.
The 16 Texas Task Force 1 members are expected to assist with water rescues under direction of the Disaster District Committee in Beaumont. Waterways in East Texas began cresting Friday as the result of recent heavy rains and are expected to continue rising through the weekend. There are reports of isolated flooding throughout the area.
Texas Task Force 1, which is sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service, coordinates the state’s water rescue program and also serves as Texas’ only statewide urban search and rescue team.
