Urban search and rescue team Texas Task Force 1 is focusing its search efforts in Eagle Pass on three schools that were severely damaged by last night’s deadly tornado.
The Task Force deployed a Type I heavy structural collapse team with 84 members to Eagle Pass early today, and they joined in the efforts already under way by the Rapid Assessment Team which assisted with search efforts overnight.
As of 3 p.m. today, Task Force leaders reported that they continue to search affected areas. A Task Force RNA (Rapid Needs Assessment) team has flown over the site(s) to provide additional information and identify potential areas of interest. Efforts continue with canine resources to ensure the best possible coverage, as many of the hard-hit areas are widespread.
Texas Task Force 1 was activated by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management on Tuesday to prepare for severe weather conditions across the state.
Sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) under The Texas A&M University System, Texas Task Force 1 is Texas’ only statewide Type I urban search and rescue team and coordinates the state’s water rescue program.
