  • Texas Task Force 1 demobilized, returning to College Station today

Urban search and rescue team Texas Task Force 1 is expected to arrive here today about 12 noon after completing its search and rescue mission in Eagle Pass, where deadly tornadoes struck Tuesday night.

The Task Force deployed a Type I heavy structural collapse team with 84 members to Eagle Pass early Wednesday and spent most of the day searching the area, including three schools that were severely damaged by the tornado.

Texas Task Force 1 was activated by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management on Tuesday in advance of severe weather conditions that threatened the state.

Sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) under The Texas A&M University System, Texas Task Force 1 is Texas’ only statewide Type I urban search and rescue team and coordinates the state’s water rescue program.

I am walking away from the course humbled, with lots of new information and significantly broadened perspective. It is hard to ask for more than that.
