  • Texas Task Force 1 completes deployment to Central Texas

Texas Task Force 1 was deployed May 25-29 by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management to support rescue operations in the wake of severe weather in central Texas over the Memorial Day weekend. Seven members of Texas Task Force 1’s water rescue team were deployed to San Antonio and Waco with three helicopter rescue squads.

Team members assisted with the rescue of 13 people from the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels, using swiftwater rescue boats, a helicopter hoist and a Texas Task Force 1 rescue swimmer. Team members also assisted in the search for a drowning victim of a canoe accident on Cibolo Creek. Ed Brickley of TEEX coordinated the team’s efforts from the San Antonio Emergency Operations Center.

Texas Task Force 1 is sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service, a member of The Texas A&M University System.
