Course Description
Preparation for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. Emergency Medical Responders have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Emergency Medical Responders also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response. Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate proficiency in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains for the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in accordance with the current guidelines of the licensing/certification agency.

Please note: For the Spring School Emergency Medical Responders and the Municipal Annual School Emergency Medical Responders: This class is for Texas residents that are members of a municipal or volunteer first responder organization ONLY. This course is partially funded through a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Rural / Frontier EMS Education Grant. Any other students should attend the Industrial Annual School EMR class.
The Emergency Medical Responder course is an 80-hour blended course, with 44 hours of self-paced online didactic instruction that follows a lesson plan with weekly lecture and activity assignments the student completes using a home computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. The face-to-face portion is 36 hours of hands on psychomotor skills instruction and written testing. The face-to-face portion is completed at the Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas and runs for one week during the Texas Annual Fire Training School classes conducted in March and July.
Individuals successfully completing the EMR course are eligible for National Registry Cognitive Exam testing and certification through the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS) as an Emergency Medical Responder.

Course Completion Requirements
General
- 18 years of age or older
- Submit proof of a current healthcare provider CPR card like an American Heart Association BLS Provider or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card.
Class Materials
All students must purchase the Emergency Medical Responder 7th Ed. textbook and Navigate Premiere Access bundle (ISBN# 9781284225891), which can be purchased HERE. Once the registration process is completed, you will receive a file with additional class information to include the online course code, class schedule, and any course assignments that must be completed prior to coming to class.
Students are required to complete all online didactic assignments totaling 44 hours or more depending on the student prior to coming to the face-to-face portion. Students who have not completed the online didactic assignments will not be allowed to attend the psychomotor skills and Emergency Medical Responders certification classroom exams and therefore will not be eligible for a course completion.
All students must successfully complete the required 45 hours on-line didactic textbook assignments with a minimum passing score of 70% or greater prior to the first day of in person psychomotor instruction. All students must attend the 36 hours in person psychomotor skills training and pass all written module chapter exams and the Emergency Medical Responder final exam with a 70% or greater. Students are allowed one (1) retest per exam to maintain a 70% or greater average.

Students will be given information on how to access the online course materials, including a course code, upon successful registration into the program.

Participants Must Provide
- a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 90% of the face-to-face hours as a component of successful course completion. This means you are allowed to miss a maximum of 4 hours of face-to-face time to still be eligible for a course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Annual Fire Training School Registration Requirements
Annual Schools require that you use the online registration system.
If you are using HB2604 or TIFMAS tuition assistance, you must attain approval from the Texas A&M Forest Service before you register for a course. Blended and online courses are not voucher eligible. You must submit payment at the time of registration. This may be in the form of a purchase order. After the participant has successfully completed the course, the certificate of completion should be submitted to the Texas A&M Forest Service for reimbursement. You are no longer required to email or fax the approval letter to TEEX/ESTI unless it is specifically requested by TEEX staff.
If you are using a standard Purchase Order, complete online registration and send a copy of PO documentation within 48 hours. Payment is due within 30 days of the first day of class.
The PO contact email needs to be either yourself or a responsible person within your organization.
A new data field has been added to the payment process. The Tax ID (Tax Payer ID, EIN or FEIN) will be the number assigned to your organization. The field is required and needs to be in the following format: xx-xxxxxxx.
