Course Description
This course meets or exceed the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1072 Hazardous Materials / WMD Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications Chapter 5.4 and 5.5 and is used as the completion of the online HAZ701 class.
Upon completion of this course you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and skills testing for Hazmat Awareness and Operations.
If you are taking this course to obtain Pro Board certification to NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials / WMD Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications Chapter 4, “Awareness,” please be aware that you must complete your initial certification testing in TEEX’s HAZ702 course within six months of completing this HAZ701 online course. You may still test for Operations ONLY outside of the six months.

Course Completion Requirements
In order to complete this course, you must have completed the skills practice and skills testing for the job performance requirements in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1072 Hazardous Materials / WMD Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications.
Participants Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
To meet attendance requirements, participants must review each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.
Recommended
It is highly recommended that participants complete:
- FEMA Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS-100) or equivalent
- National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Collect hazard information from the current edition of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG)
- Donning, working in and doffing Level B Chemical Protective Equipment (CPE)
- Emergency Decontamination of personnel in PPE
Suggested Audience
Personnel who respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, the environment, or property from the effects of the release.
