Course Description

NFA logoThis National Fire Academy (NFA) course introduces the special characteristics of noncombustible and fire-resistive construction as it relates to the firefighting profession. Fire officers can improve their ability to ensure firefighter safety by recognizing common causes and indicators of failure and other hazards related to building construction or contents. You will be able to better predict the overall reaction of a building to fire conditions.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Attendance Requirements

To meet NFA attendance requirements, participants must complete each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam. Exceptions may be discussed with lead instructor.

  • Concrete as a structural material
  • The principles of the fire growth in buildings
  • The principles of smoke movement in buildings
  • Special problems of buildings under construction

Suggested Audience

All emergency and crisis response personnel.
