Course Description
Annual School 36-hour Crude by Rail Emergency Response is designed to provide emergency responders with the skills and knowledge required to mitigate a flammable liquid fire involving railcars. This hands-on course covers the increase of nationwide crude oil & flammable liquid production, including industry regulations concerning crude oil transportation especially by rail with an emphasis on burning crude oil tank cars involved in a train derailment.
The course also covers the characteristics of flammable liquids including crude oil and examines the various types of firefighting equipment used in response to a train derailment with ensuing fire. Participants will learn how to monitor the environment, recognize hazards and consider tactical responses on full-scale props where they will apply their skills and knowledge in a controlled but realistic crude oil fire involving railcars.

Course Completion Requirements
PPE
This course requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Level 4 as described in the TEEX Student Safety Manual. All participants are required to follow this manual at all times.
You must wear regular station duty wear for fire field activities and office attire for classroom sessions. You may not wear shorts, sleeveless shirts, or open-toed shoes to any class or field activity.
Participants Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

This course provides skills and knowledge to emergency responders who will respond to a flammable liquid fire involving railcars. This course is specifically aimed at emergency responders in areas with active crude by rail operations. This includes:

- Railroad emergency responders
