Course Description
The Advanced Backhoe Operations course takes the novice operator into areas of training that develop skills required to tackle complex and operations in the utility maintenance and construction fields. Participants will study in-depth the OSHA requirements for excavation safety and the techniques used to comply with those standards. Hands-on training will consist of utility location and lifting activities. Load and tie-down procedures will also be addressed. Participants will receive intense training in productive and efficient operator techniques.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Recommended
It is recommended, but not required, participants complete the TEEX Backhoe Operator (HEP002) course.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Identify backhoe-loader components and operations.
- Recognize basic backhoe safety procedures.
- Describe the appropriate startup and shutdown procedures on a backhoe-loader.
- Explain procedures required for a successful preventive maintenance program.
- Use sloping and benching diagrams to identify the impact of environmental hazards.
- Calculate utility tolerance zones.
- Discuss basic backhoe operations.
- Discuss procedures to prepare a backhoe for trailer transport.
- Demonstrate basic backhoe-loader operations discussed in the preceding modules.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to perform multi-part backhoe operations.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for personnel who currently operate backhoe-loaders and more experienced operators.
