Course Description

The Geospatial Technologies in
Search and Rescue course is designed to prepare participants to utilize
geospatial tools to improve the effectiveness of search and rescue planning and
response operations during a wide variety of critical situations from large
scale disasters to a single missing person.

Participants will be instructed
in search planning, mapping, and data analysis leading to enhanced situational
awareness, more efficient resource deployment, and ultimately, more successful
mission outcomes. The training includes challenging exercises that mirror real
life scenarios. The three-day long event concludes with an in-depth exercise
that requires participants to apply the skills gained during the course.

The instructors delivering the
course are knowledgeable, experienced emergency responders who have
successfully employed Geospatial Technologies during some of the nation’s
largest and most challenging search and rescue operations; and at small scale
incidents that required the same comprehensive strategies.

Prerequisites

Introduction to Geospatial Technologies in Search and Rescue (AWR-306-W)

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Explain the role of geospatial technologies in search and rescue planning and response.
  • Operate within the established ground rules during the early phase of a search and rescue operational period.
  • Manipulate data received during the initial tactical phase of a search and rescue operation to aid the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in defining the Common Operating Picture (COP) for responders.
  • Apply methods to determine search parameters and data requirements.
  • Demonstrate how geospatial data is used to allocate and augment resources.
  • Produce commonly used documents created by analyzing geospatial data.
