This course is designed to provide you with the necessary review of knowledge and skills that swiftwater rescue technicians practice every year. The course consists of one hour of classroom review, three hours of water-refresher skills, and four hours of technician level water-based rescue skills. Additionally, this course includes a homework assignment to develop a nighttime swiftwater search plan.
The following prerequisite is required to attend this course. Participants must bring their certificate of completion on the first day of class. Participants that do not have the prerequisite will be removed from the class.
- NFPA 1006 Swiftwater Rescue Levels I & II or equivalent.
Course Completion Requirements
- Footwear appropriate for a water environment
- Personal Flotation Device (PFD) USCG Type III/V
- Swiftwater rescue helmet with head light (must be ANSI rates Z89.1- 1997 Type 1)
- Wetsuit or drysuit (optional)
We have a limited supply of PFDs and helmets to borrow during the class. Students must contact us and reserve the equipment and it is provided on a first-come basis
To meet attendance requirements, participants must review each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.
Prior to attending this course, you should have medium to strong swimming abilities.
Due to the strenuous nature of search and rescue activities, you should secure a professional evaluation of your physical condition prior to enrolling in these courses.

For any responder (Fire Service, Law Enforcement, EMS, Public Works, and Military) that has completed the NFPA 1006 Swiftwater Rescue Levels I & II or other equivalent course within the last two years and now requires a refresher course.
Classes will begin at 8 a.m. on the first day of the course, unless other arrangements have been made. For the purpose of making hotel reservations, the course is conducted in the New Braunfels, Texas area.
Jurisdictions requiring assistance in establishing regional search and rescue capabilities in the areas of Structural Collapse, CBRNE response, and Water Rescue are encouraged to contact the TEEX/ESTI Rescue Program.

Course Cancellation Policy
If the minimum number of students required to conduct the class have not registered 24 calendar days prior to class start date, the class will be canceled. Therefore, it is imperative that agencies/individuals wishing to enroll make arrangements to register and make payment prior to this deadline.
