The Fundamental Engineering Standards for Outside Telecom Plants course provides participants with baseline requirements and other considerations related to the planning and construction of telecommunications outside plant facilities. During the course, participants study outside plant engineering procedures and determine all required technological standards necessary to construct a modern outside plant cable facility. Areas discussed during training include conducting a needs analysis specific to the facility desired (copper and/or fiber cable), staking the design, and providing oversight of construction. Training received during the course covers the most appropriate outside plant design for a given situation using current RUS specifications and industry standards. Once training is completed, participants will have drafted a design for a buried plant project.
To meet attendance requirements, participants must review each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.
This course is designed for new plant or engineering employees of a telephone utility operation, experienced telephone installation and repair personnel, or other industry personnel familiar with telephone operations requiring a foundation in the basics of telecommunications outside plant engineering.
