COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) Water Rescue Squads deployed this week in response to heavy rain and severe weather over Central and West Texas. The Water Rescue Squads helped to evacuate five people and a dog from a flooded RV park, and checked on an additional 11 people that chose to shelter-in-place.

TX-TF1 members worked closely with the Waco Fire Department and State response partners from the Texas Parks & Wildlife to assist those impacted by the flooding on April 24.

TX-TF1 was activated and pre-positioned on April 23 in response to a request from the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy resources ahead of a statewide severe weather system. The team deployed two Water Rescue Squads and one Water Group Supervisor. Resources were staged, pre-positioned or conducted operations in four counties: Hill, McLennan, Taylor and Tom Green.

TX-TF1 personnel demobilized April 25 and returned to their home stations.

Additionally, TX-TF2 had their urban search and rescue team on alert, should they be requested on short notice. Ultimately they were not needed, and TDEM stood the team down.

As always, TX-TF1 reminds citizens to tune into your local media and news sources for up-to- date weather forecasts and reports for your area. As a
reminder, never drive through water across a roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
