Texas Task Force 1 received the EMS Bureau Chief’s Award from the Texas Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Management on Nov. 20 in Austin.
The award was presented to TX-TF1 in recognition of the team’s dedication and achievements, which include using its expertise in urban search and rescue to assist the New York emergency response personnel in the search for survivors in the wreckage of the World Trade Center.
It was also recognized for using its swift water rescue skills to rescue more than 1,100 Houston citizens trapped by Tropical Storm Allison’s floods. The award further recognized the team’s response to the tornadoes in Fort Worth in 2000 and the Texas A&M Bonfire collapse in 1999.
Accepting the award on behalf of TX-TF1 were Billy Parker, Todd Reynolds and Al Guarino.
