  • Popularity of TEEX police academy leads to first-ever dual daytime academies

For the first time in its history, TEEX’s Public Safety and Security is conducting two daytime police academies simultaneously. Established in 1942, the TEEX Central Texas Police Academy (CTPA) is the oldest continuing statewide law-enforcement extension training agency in Texas.

The police academy admits a maximum of 30 students per course and has been forced to turn away applicants in previous years. Because of the high number of qualified applicants for the session beginning Aug. 15, a second fall class was added to accommodate 20 additional students, who entered the police academy Sept. 19.

The high number of applicants is partially due to increased growth of law enforcement agencies in the Brazos Valley, said Cullen Grissom, Program Manager with TEEX’s Public Safety and Security. “We are pleased to be able to accommodate local law enforcement agencies as they hire new officers who will ultimately make our communities safer for everyone.”

In addition to Bryan and College Station, the Academy draws recruits from the entire Central Texas area, including Huntsville, Brenham, Victoria, San Antonio, and La Grange.

This is definitely the best class I’ve ever taken through TEEX. I was told before I came that I would need to study beforehand, but after being in the class, I disagree. They covered everything and kept it at a level that everyone could understand. I definitely recommend this to others.
