Instructors, technicians, and Recruit Academy students participated in the first test burns on ESTI's newest prop, the large-scale ARFF project. The prop consists of a large fuselage with bi-level wings and is surrounded by a 5,000 square foot spill area, and supports the coordinated efforts of monitors, hose lines, and ARFF trucks to knock down, contain, and extinguish fires.
Minor adjustments and additions have been completed. Now in use, the prop is capable of supporting a variety of scenarios, including galley, cabin, and storage fires, as well as integrated suppression and rescue drills.
The large spill area sits next to a small (400 square foot) spill area with a small fuselage, wheel/brake assembly, and engine. Combined, the small and large props support LPG fires and provide exhaustive, realistic ARFF training. ESTI's ARFF program offers a 120-Hour ARFF Academy and a 40-Hour Aircraft Firefighting Operations course, both of which are IFSAC approved and NPQS accredited. Both also meet or exceed all requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and FAA. In addition to open enrollment courses, customized courses are also available.
