Judith Bennett, a civilian member of the Canadian Department of Defense, became the first international student to graduate from the TEEX Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician training class on May 23.
Bennett and Elizabeth Miller, who was the first female honor graduate of the program, were among the 14 graduates.
The guest instructor for the class was Gunnery Sgt. Bob Schmidt, from the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, where he was named Joint Service Instructor-of-the-Year for 2002.
TEEX offers the only civilian UXO Technician course certified by the U.S. Department of Defense. The five-week class is offered two or three times a year by the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center. Students in the program learn explosives safety and how to locate and identify all types of munitions, including bombs, missiles, projectiles, rockets, landmines, pyrotechnics and much more.
