The Hands-On HAZWOPER for Cleanup Operations course is designed to meet the "hands-on performance of work tasks" requirements for 40-hour Cleanup Operations training under 29 CFR 1910.120(e). The use of hands-on training and exercises provides participants with an opportunity to become familiar with the equipment and safe practices while operating in a non-hazardous setting. During training, students are provided an opportunity to don personal protective equipment while practicing under simulated circumstances.
TEEX Certification/Licensing Requirements
Participants currently enrolled in the VA Environmental Technician Program (SAF76) wishing to receive a TEEX 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate must show evidence of completion of the Environmental Health & Safety (ENV213) course at least 14 business days prior to the start of the class. This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the document after registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email that they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster.
Course Completion Requirements
Participants will be required to wear TEEX-provided self-contained breathing apparatus and other issued personal protective equipment while conducting field exercises outdoors. In order to fully participate, a change of clothing will be required to accommodate Level A & Level B equipment exercises.
It is recommended, but not required, participants complete an OSHA physical examination in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
