Course Description

flagger and diagram of work zoneThe Flaggers in Work Zones course provides training to work zone personnel assigned to traffic control duties. Training is valid for 4 years from the date of completion. During the course, participants are instructed on proper flagging techniques critical to the safety of work zone personnel and guided through demonstrations designed to help reduce the risk of traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities. In addition to classroom training, all participants are provided opportunities to practice using those techniques demonstrated during assigned practical field scenarios.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Prior Training Courses or Knowledge

It is recommended, but not required, participants complete the TEEX Work Zone Traffic Control (HWS002) course prior to registration.

  • Hand-Signaling Devices and Procedures
  • Flagger Stations

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for individuals who will be a flagger or responsible for setting up flagging operations in work zones, inspectors, contractors, and state, city, and county agencies.
