Course Description

stop sign on school busThe School Bus Driver Instructor Refresher course provides experienced pupil transportation professionals with Department of Transportation guideline updates, associated curriculum revisions, and all related training delivery updates to include revised delivery materials; all based on Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Program best practices. In addition to refreshing basic instructor skills, participants will cover all CDL Pre-trip inspection review processes along with proper backing, turning, parking, and student skill documentation requirements.

Prerequisites

Texas DPS Certification/Licensing Requirement

The participant must present a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Class B CDL (P & S endorsement), a valid Bus Driver Certification card, and evidence of completion of both the Texas DPS Bus Driver Safety course and TEEX School Bus Driver Instructor (PPT001) course.  These prerequisites may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the documents after registration using the TEEX Student Portal within 14 days of the start of class. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
